About Hanna

Hanna Harris (they/them) is an award-winning spoken word artist, educator, community advocate, and Dolly Parton aficionado. Informed by their experience finding home in Los Angeles after growing up in the South, Hanna is driven by an ethos of collective care that centers on radical storytelling and truth based community building. They have since performed their poetry at Warped Tour, Women’s March, ENVSN, Dodger Stadium, and at over 300 other events in the LA area; opening for celebrities and politicians like  Gloria Steinem, Roxane Gay, Hillary Clinton, Jackie Aina, & more. Their poetry, teaching, and activism have received recognition from the United Nations, Planned Parenthood, Out Magazine, the United Way, and more.  

Hanna is a certified Community Teaching Artist by the LA County Department of Cultural Affairs and has taught over 30 arts activism residencies in Los Angeles.  They are the Founder & Director of Found Family LA (foundfamilyla.com), a non-profit collective providing mentorship & Queer arts education to LGBTQ+ young people in Los Angeles. After their role as Writer and Dialogue Supervisor on their feature film Summertime (2020) and as a lead on its subsequent Sundance premier and Social Impact Campaign, they continued their work leveraging arts access for social equity. They became a founder at POETIC (wearepoetic.com), a collective of Los Angeles-based poets and artists from various communities aligned in the values of storytelling, empathy, and social impact.

Hanna holds BA degrees in both Gender and Women’s Studies as well as Queer studies from CSUN, with respective concentration areas in Race and Ethnicity. Their academic research focused on women’s roles in contemporary labor organizing and the queer history of unions.
